A new bill (S3353/A4501) signed by Governor Murphy directs the State Agriculture Development Committee (SADC) to establish an agricultural management practice (AMP) to allow housing for resident farm employees on commercial farms. A “resident farm employee” is defined as a person employed full-time on a commercial farm for agricultural production. Farm owners and their descendants, and equine-related employees are not included. (Equine employees are already permitted to live on-site). The amount of the housing has to correlate with the farm’s labor needs and the resident farm employees cannot be charged rent.
